After some of members marshalled the VTTA 25 at Spearpoint they then rode to Bethersden to take part in the San Fairy Ann Club 50 km Audax ride. On arrival at the Village Hall there was a welcome from the SFA club members, including club stalwart Ron Lee.
The ride set off at 10.00 leaving Bethersden via Etchenden Wood and Ninn Lane to Great Chart. It was then onto Blue Barn, which gave us a chance to see how the new housing development was progressing. It was then onto Shadoxhurst following cycle route 18 for a while before turning right to Brissenden and re-joining the A28.
After a short stretch of main road, it was back into the lanes and passing the back of Bethersden to Pluckley Station before turning into Chambers Green Road towards Munday Bois before turning back past the Smarden Bell to Headcorn Airport Control.
With 33 kilometres now under our belts it was on towards Waterman Quarter then onto Hareplain where the left turn took us into Beech Lane to join the A262 through Biddenden to Dashmonden where it was left to follow the road through passing Turks Head Farm into Pot Kiln Lane into Bull Lane where it was left on the A28 back to the Village Hall.
All four riders coped well with heat on what must have been one of the hottest days of the year so far. The course was completed well within the allotted time.
There were excellent refreshments laid on by the host club, including Marmite on Toast for Sue and the highlight for Alyson was cold rice pudding and peaches. Meanwhile Taj was enjoying a selection of rolls and Bob rice pudding and Jam. With the great company of the hosts and riders from other clubs it was the perfect end to a perfect day.
