Once again, the Spin Wheels Team continued their support for this event with six members making the start line. Unfortunately having successfully negotiated a day’s leave for the event Dave Elcome was ill and unable to take part.

Gary Booth, who has ridden in every C50C since it was first started made the trip from Rye to take part, with club stalwarts Taj & Sue Matharoo making the journey from Ashford to ride the event. These were joined by Alyson Nye and Bob Burden (who have also ridden every C50C event) who rode to the event as did Keith Burden.

The group this year opted for the 30-mile course which turned out to be a wise decision on what turned out to be a blustery day.

The route gave the riders a very comfortable start with a tail wind through Dymchurch, Burmarsh and into Donkey Street. However, after the turn at Botolph’s Bridge it was head wind towards Newchuch. The route then gave a little respite turning short of the village towards Bilsington then turning into Tar Pot Lane thus avoiding the monument climb. It was then into Wey Street and a short encounter with the A2070 before re-joining the lanes to the refreshment stop at Ivychurch.

As always there was an outstanding selection of refreshment for the riders which were most welcome as the team had now completed 25 of the scheduled 30.

From Ivychurch it was a direct route to New Romney skirting the outskirts of the town to return to St Mary in the Marsh.

The day was completed with all six riders enjoying a beer and a snack at The Star and listening to live music in the pubs garden.
